Classicism
|
Classicism was an epoch of style, in which the imitation of the classic ancient times was made prominent. It is not easy to delimit the period of Classicism. Indeed, ever since the Renaissance period, there was a Classicistic sub-stream, which also was evident during the Baroque period.
Especially in England and France, a Classicistic mainstream was hegemonial throughout whole of the 17th and 18th centuries. However, the main period of time to be the Classicistic period lays in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, an epoch in which it was tried to renew the - mostly Greek - Classic style.
